Fidel "The Pon Don" is a plant grower who found healing through plants through his journey of sobriety. Specializing in passive hydroponics, he teaches others how to grow plants in passive-based systems with minimal maintenance. Fidel believes that nurturing plants mirrors personal growth helping others thrive both in their indoor jungles and in life.
With long-term goals of creating a Begonia and Anthurium hybrid, Fidel combines a passion for plant genetics with a commitment to innovation, aiming to contribute something unique and beautiful to the world of horticulture with his long-term studies of growing in passive hydroponics.
Derrick Owens @unclefish
Join Derrick for a live glassblowing demo packed with fire, artistry and imagination ! Watch as he sculpts molten glass into delicate hollow forms, vibrant marbles and maybe even a dragon or two !
A mesmerizing experience for all ages !!
Ara is a plant collector first, and a business owner second. What started with a jungle of unruly Hoya vines led to the design of the first Arka Trellis—a simple, stylish, and functional solution for supporting houseplants of all kinds. Now, with 3+ years of hands-on trellising experience, her brand, Propagation Diaries, is all about making plant care easier (and cuter).
Join one or both of Ara’s classes to learn practical tips for taming your own plant chaos, choosing the right supports, and keeping your collection low-maintenance without sacrificing style. Demo products are available as an add-on purchase for hands-on learning, or just come to learn!
My bonsai journey began much like many bonsai artist starting out in the 1980's with a one gallon Juniper Procumbens. This small cascade bonsai stayed with me until 2011 when a combination of a tropical storm and a large limb sent it to bonsai heaven. My bonsai education started when I joined with a small group of other bonsai artist to start the Azalea City Bonsai Society of Mobile, Alabama in 1981. ACBS started hosting masters from the BSF visiting artist in 1982. John Naka was our first visiting master. This association with BSF has allowed me to work with and gain knowledge from almost all the top teachers in the USA and other countries. The past 42 years I have presented programs and held workshops and demonstrations with all the bonsai societies in Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi and clubs inTexas, Georgia and Florida. My bonsai have been displayed in BSF, BCI and American Bonsai Society convention shows and at the Disney-BSF display. My bonsai education articles have appeared in the BCI magazine, BSF , American Bonsai and Tropical Bonsai magazine. My bonsai have been photographed for books and I have written for other bonsai artist books. Now retired, I work daily on my large personal bonsai collection of almost all the species of plants that tolerate our gulf coast climate long enough to become mature bonsai. About 30 years ago I started carving natural rock slabs for forest and individual bonsai. I estimate about 200 slabs are now out in the bonsai world. Most of the bonsai in the National Bonsai display in Washington DC are on slabs that I custom carved. It is a journey of wonderful welcoming people
